President Mohamud Hails Somalia’s Elections at UNSC as ‘Victory’, a Testimony of Development and Governance

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has hailed the election of Somalia as a ‘victory’ which demonstrates the country’s good governance and development.

Ina  statement following the election of Somalia into the UN Security Council, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said said the endorsement by the UN General Assembly was a testimony of Somalia’s revovery process.

“The diplomatic success we achieved today reflects how the world is witnessing the efforts and development of Somalia especially the recovery and reconstruction of our country,” the President said.

He added the elections was ‘an opportunity that we can take advantage of to contribute to the safety and security of the world.’

He also thanked those who contributed to Somalia’s success noting this will be a ‘valuable opportunity that will enable our country to play a prominent role in the security and peace of the world.’

Somalia garnered 179 votes out of the possible 124 to join the group of five countries that were contesting for the seats on Thursday.
