President Mohamud Hosts Civil Society Representatives, Discuss National Issues
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday met with representatives from civil society organisations in the country, where they discussed a range of issues about the country.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the two sides discussed the major developments in the country, including preparations for one-person, one-vote elections, security, and reconciliation, among others.
“The president shared general information with the organizations about the situation of the country, especially the achievements of stabilizing social services, restoring the status of our nation in the global community, economic development, fighting terrorism, and wider preparation for the implementation of direct elections,” the statement read in part.
The civil society members lauded the government’s efforts, especially in the war against Al-Shabaab and restoring the country’s status in the international arena as Somalia takes up a seat at the UN Security Council.
Somalia has also launched its bid for a seat in the African Union Peace and Security Council.
