GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, where he inaugurated a new parliament building and urged greater unity in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The president, accompanied by federal ministers and senior military officials, was received by Galmudug leader Ahmed Abdi Karie (Qoor-Qoor), Vice President Ali Dahir Eid, parliamentary leaders, and community elders.

His visit comes amid a push to strengthen governance structures in federal member states while intensifying military operations against militants.

At a ceremony on Wednesday, Mohamud officially opened the newly constructed Galmudug State Parliament, a modern facility designed to reinforce legislative functions in the region. He also laid foundation stones for additional development projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving public services.

“The cooperation between the federal government and Galmudug is bearing fruit,” Karie said, noting that the projects symbolise progress in both state-building and service delivery.

Alongside the development agenda, Mohamud held consultations with Galmudug leaders and military commanders to accelerate offensives against Al-Shabaab in the Galgaduud and Mudug regions, where the group retains pockets of control.

He called on local communities to mobilise in support of security forces engaged in Somalia’s ongoing “liberation campaign.”

The inauguration marks a milestone in Somalia’s federalism process, underscoring Mogadishu’s dual strategy of investing in institutions while pressing ahead with operations to dismantle the militant group that has waged an insurgency for more than 15 years.
