President Mohamud, Jubaland Leader Wrap Up Reconciliation Talks

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KISMAYO: Federal Government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) have concluded the first phase of high-level talks in Kismayo, marking a cautious breakthrough in efforts to ease tensions between the federal government and one of its key regional states.

Officials said the discussions, held over two days in the Jubaland capital, focused on rebuilding political trust, improving coordination on national priorities, and resolving long-standing disputes that have hampered Somalia’s state-building process.

Both sides described the outcome as “positive,” agreeing to continue consultations and reconvene for the next round of dialogue.

President Mohamud commended the constructive tone of the talks, calling them “a foundation for unity and cooperation essential to Somalia’s progress.” He praised the Jubaland administration for what he termed a “commitment to dialogue and national interest.”

Ahmed Madobe also welcomed the outcome, noting that the discussions had opened “a genuine path toward understanding and stability.”

The Kismayo talks are viewed as a potential turning point for Somalia’s fragile federal system. A sustained reconciliation between Mogadishu and Jubaland could accelerate political reforms, strengthen security coordination, and reinforce nationwide efforts to stabilise newly recovered areas from al Shabaab control.

Both leaders are expected to meet again soon to refine a roadmap for continued engagement — a move analysts say will test the durability of this renewed spirit of cooperation.
