President Mohamud Lauds Puntland for ‘Just War’ Against ISIS

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has lauded the war efforts against ISIS by Puntland, terming it a victory for peace in Somalia.

Speaking during the opening of the sixth session of the Federal Parliament Saturday, President Mohamud said Puntland had waged a ‘just war’ against the ISIS terrorist group.

“We stand with the Puntland State Forces who have waged a just war against the Daesh group, and the Federal Government of Somalia stands with the forces and people who are struggling in the areas of Puntland,” the president said.

Puntland Security Forces have been fighting ISIS militants since last November in a major operation targeting the group’s hideouts in the Al-Miskad mountain ranges in Bari region.

In a related development, President Mohamud said the rebuilding of the Navy and the Air Force had been completed, noting the two arms of the Somali National Army are now capable of providing naval and air security to the country.

“The Federal Government of Somalia has taken a stand to protect the sea and stop illegal fishing,” the president added.
