President Mohamud Launches LPG Storage Center to Curb Land Deforestation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Sunday launched the new Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Storage Center in Mogadishu.
The launch of the facility, according to president Mohamud is a major step in his government’s efforts to combat and environmental degradation in Somalia.
The President, while speaking during the function praised the efforts of local officials and Somali businessmen to support government’s environmental protection and reconstruction plans.
“Accessible gas is a stride towards a sustainable and self-sufficient Somalia,” he remarked, urging for price adjustments that align with the economic realities facing Somali households.
President Mohamud also challenged Somali entrepreneurs to invest in the country’s economic infrastructure saying that the government is exploring ways of locally producing gas, rather than importing.
“It’s time for the gas we import to be produced right here in Somalia,” he said.
