GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended condolences to Pakistan following devastating floods that have killed more than 300 people and caused widespread destruction.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and devastation caused by recent floods in Pakistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the government and people of Pakistan during this difficult time,” Mohamud said. He added that Somalia stood in solidarity with Pakistan “in the face of this climate-induced tragedy.”

Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods have swept through Pakistan’s northwest, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, triggering landslides, collapsing buildings and cutting off villages. Emergency workers are racing to deliver aid, while authorities warn of more rain in the days ahead.

Climate scientists say global warming has intensified the rainfall, worsening the floods’ impact. Pakistan, which suffered catastrophic flooding in 2022, remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate shocks.

Somalia, which has also endured cycles of drought and floods worsened by climate change, said the disaster in Pakistan highlights shared challenges faced by vulnerable nations on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
