President Mohamud opens National Consultative Forum in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is presiding over the National Consultative Forum which commenced in Mogadishu on Thursday .

The meeting is attended by the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and his deputy, all regional government heads, and the Governor of Banadir Region.

The current humanitarian situation in the country and the fight against Al-Shabaab are some of the key agendas that will be tackled in the meeting.

The National Consultative Forum comes at a time when the country is facing a crippling drought on a scale last seen half a century ago, according to the UN. However, several gains have been made on the security front following the killing of Al-Shabaab militants, running into their hundreds, in operations carried out by the army, with backup from local militia.
