President Mohamud, Opposition Leaders Meet in Mogadishu Amidst Bitter Disputes

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is today hosting a meeting with opposition leaders at Villa Somalia following disputes over a number of national issues in the build up to elections next year.
The opposition leaders under the National Salvation Forum include former president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former primes ministers- Hassan Ali Khaire, Hussein Roble, Abdirashid Sharmarke among other senior opposition figures.
Sources say top on the agenda will be the constitutional review process, electoral laws and procedures, political dialogue and inclusive prepations towards elections.
The opposition has since called on the president to withdraw the changes adopted by parliament on the Provisional Constitution and the electoral procedures and laws. Parliament has since approved chapters one to nine of the Provisional Consitution in addition to a one-person-one-vote electoral system.
Today’s meeting is the first in a series of engagements after bitter fall-outs between the Federal Government the opposition.
