President Mohamud Orders Tightened Controls to Curb Illegal Migration and Trafficking
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for stricter border controls and greater transparency in immigration services, saying the country’s security depends on how effectively its entry points are managed.
During an inspection visit to the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) headquarters in Mogadishu Saturday, President Mohamud urged officials to enforce immigration laws firmly and intensify efforts against human trafficking, terrorism, and illegal migration.
“The Immigration and Citizenship Agency is at the heart of Somalia’s security and sovereignty,” the president said. “The safety of our nation depends on your diligence in verifying every person entering the country.”
He praised the agency’s modernization efforts, including the launch of the e-Visa platform and deployment of the PISCES biometric identification system, which uses fingerprints and facial recognition to enhance border security.
President Mohamud said these reforms will strengthen Somalia’s ability to regulate movement, protect its citizens, and align with international border management standards.
