President Mohamud Praises Women’s Role in Security, Democracy on Women’s Day
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has praised the role of Somali women in national development, security and democratic reforms as the country marked International Women’s Day.
In a statement marking the annual event on March 8, President Mohamud said Somali women play a central role in social progress and state-building, highlighting their contributions to peacebuilding efforts and the fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The president also noted the growing role of women in advancing Somalia’s democratic process, particularly in efforts to implement universal suffrage under the planned one-person, one-vote electoral system.
President Mohamud reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening women’s participation in leadership, politics and national decision-making as part of broader reforms aimed at consolidating democratic governance.
He commended Somali women for their resilience and dedication, saying their contributions remain vital to the country’s stability and development.
