President Mohamud Says Disputes with Puntland and Jubaland to be ‘Resolved Soon’

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed optimism in resolving disputes between the Federal Government and Puntland and Jubaland states following their boycott of the ongoing talks in Mogadishu.

Speaking during a dinner with MPs and Senators Tuesday night, President Mohamud said the National Consultative Council, which he chairs wil reach an amicable solution despite the internal differences.

Puntland which broke ranks with the Federal Government last year has since not attended the NCC talks while Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe who had attended the talks early this month pulled out.

President Mohamud told lawmakers to plan for joint sessions to debate the expected outcome of the NCC talks. Crucial in the talks in the fate of the Presidential and Federal Member State elections.

The country will be electing a new president in early 2026 but the electoral model remains contentious. The Federal Government has pushed for one-person-one-vote option but critics have decried the viability of the model citing preparedness and insecurity.
