GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEW YORK: Federal Government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said Somalia is entering a new phase of stability, citing progress in the fight against al Shabaab, democratic reforms and efforts to finalize the country’s long-delayed constitution.

Speaking at the 80th anniversary of the United Nations during a dinner hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, Mohamud said Somalia had endured decades of conflict but is now charting a path toward recovery.

“The government has worked tirelessly to strengthen security, accelerate the fight against terrorism and entrench democracy,” Mohamud said, adding that completing the federal constitution would be a milestone in cementing political stability.

The president stressed that Somalia’s gains were the result of both international support and domestic resilience, but warned that the fight against extremist groups remained unfinished.

President Mohamud’s address comes as Mogadishu pushes to consolidate security achievements in southern and central regions while preparing for broader institutional reforms. Analysts say progress on constitutional completion and state-building could redefine Somalia’s political trajectory and improve its role in regional trade and security.
