President Mohamud Shares Fond Memories of Silanyo, Salutes Him for Wise Counsel and Vision

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has described the deceased for Somaliland President Ahmed Silanyo as a visionary leader who provided wise counsel and had an objective view of the Federal Government.

While paying tribute to the departed leader, President Mohamud said he shared moments with Silanyo on important issues affecting the country and provided good counsel.

“He told us to do things that were good for the country and gave us instructions based on his experience,” President Mohamud said adding that he used to refer him as uncle because of his wise counsel and vision.

President Mohamud recalled moments when he would meet President Silanyo in foreign countries. “I met Silanyo several times as president and as president in the previous term, as we used to see each other in foreign countries. I used to joke with him that I am coming to Hargeisa, President, why don’t you invite me, so he would say that it will be done on time, and you will be invited to Hargeisa,” president Mohamud recalled.

President Mohamud added, “His culture, character and leadership were remarkable; even though we were different in leading two governments in Somalia, the good that existed between us was of a high level.”

President Silanyo served as President of Somaliland from 2010 until 2017. He passed on November 15 at the age of 86.
