President Mohamud Signs Somalia’s Defense, Economic Cooperation Deal with Turkey

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has signed the reified Defense and Economic Agreement between Somalia and Republic of Türkiye.

The president said the agreement, passed by the Federal Parliament, marks a new chapter in Somalia’s journey towards a secure and prosperous future.

“The agreement embodies a shared commitment to combating all forms of illegal activities and will enable us to build a capable naval force essential for our maritime security,” the president said.

He added that the deal will also bolster Somalia’s blue economy, develop crucial economic sectors, and create opportunities for the Somali people and the entire region.

President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye for “their unwavering and timely support and commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.”
