GOOBJOOG NEWS | WASHINGTON DC: Federal Government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to address the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over the security situation in the country.

The president, together with his delegation are in the United States to hold a series of bilateral meetings with top US state officials as the country pushes on with its efforts to restore peace and stability to facilitate the various planned development agendas.

President Mohamud will also continue Somalia’s plea to the United Nations Security Council to lift the arms embargo which will allow necessary military equipment to be brought into the country to equip the Somali National Army as it embarks on the second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab.

This comes as the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) starts its drawdown of 2000 of its troops from Somalia, consequently handing over the responsibility of securing the country to the Somali National Army (SNA).

On Tuesday, a contingent of the Burindi National Defence Forces (BNDF) handed over a Forward Operating Base at Xaaji Cali in Hirshabelle state to the government forces, an indication that that Somalia is drawing closer to fully being able to handle its own security.
