President Mohamud to Lead Delegation for Northeastern State Inauguration

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to lead a high-level delegation to Las Anod for the inauguration of Abdikadir Ahmed Aw-Cali “Firdhiye,” the first president of the Northeastern Somali administration, in what is seen as a landmark for the country’s federal system.
The president will be joined by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and other senior leaders, underscoring Mogadishu’s full recognition and support for the new regional authority.
Firdhiye and his deputy, Abdirashid Yussuf Jibril, were elected on Aug. 30 after months of community mobilisation and resistance that secured local governance in the region. Somali officials say the formation of the administration reflects the will of the people and strengthens national unity.
President Hassan has championed dialogue and inclusive federalism since returning to office in 2022. His presence at the Las Anod ceremony is seen as reinforcing his commitment to bring previously contested regions into the fold of Somalia’s federal government and to ensure stability in the north.
Officials hailed the inauguration as a victory for both the local community and the federal government’s vision of a stronger, united Somalia.
