President Mohamud Urges Cabinet to Deepen Democratic Reforms, Strengthen Public Trust

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday chaired a weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, urging his Cabinet to intensify efforts toward democratization and national unity amid ongoing operations against the Al-Shabaab insurgency.
According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the meeting reviewed the country’s overall situation, with updates on security, trade, politics, health, and public services. The President commended recent gains in the fight against Al-Shabaab, noting that many militants had been eliminated in recent months.
The Cabinet also discussed plans for the 2026 national budget, which is expected to increase and prioritize funding for essential sectors including health, education, and social development.
President Mohamud emphasized that the government’s legitimacy depends on its ability to build public confidence through inclusive governance and tangible reforms.
He called on ministers to “fully engage in efforts to democratize the country to strengthen public trust and reinforce the image of governance and national unity.”
Thursday’s session marked the second Cabinet meeting chaired by President Mohamud since appointing the Federal Government.
