GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Thursday issued a stern warning to financiers of militant groups in the country.

Speaking in Mogadishu, President Mohamud said certain individuals have been facilitating operations of the group by opening bank accounts for wanted terror suspects.

The president said the government has started investigations aimed at identifying the individuals facilitating terror activities adding that those found to be involved will be arrested and prosecuted.

“Terrorists are not relatives, don’t be fooled. You cannot contact them, you cannot call them, and you cannot be called by a criminal in the forest who is wanted by the government. Whoever aids or supports such a person is another criminal,” President Mohamud stated.

President Mohamud made the remarks during an Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism Committee forum held at Villa Somalia.

The committee, which focuses on curbing financial support to terrorist organizations, briefed the President on the significant progress made in the financial war against Al-Shabaab militants.

At the meeting, President Mohamud reiterated the importance of a multifaceted approach in combating terrorism, stressing the need to fight militants not only militarily but also ideologically and financially.

He praised the committee’s efforts and highlighted the critical role of financial intelligence and enforcement in dismantling terrorist networks.
