GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has urged citizens to safeguard recent security gains in the capital and announced a ban on the unauthorized use of heavy weapons in Mogadishu.

Speaking after Friday prayers, President Mohamud credited the improved stability in the city to the sacrifices of Somali security forces and civilians.

“The improvement in Mogadishu’s security did not happen on its own; many Somalis sacrificed their blood for it. We must not return to where we came from,” he said.

The president also addressed a recent attack on a police station in the Warta Nabada district, saying those involved were in custody and would face trial. He warned that the government would not tolerate actions undermining law and order.

President Mohamud said even senior officials, including himself, must adhere to the new weapons directive. “As President, I have given up vehicles mounted with heavy weapons,” he said. “It is forbidden for anyone to show off with heavy weapons in Mogadishu.”

The remarks come amid renewed efforts by the government to consolidate control, strengthen the rule of law, and maintain stability in the capital.
