Presidential election committee meets with security chiefs ahead of May 15 polls

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Joint Committee tasked with the presidential election has on Saturday met with the country’s top security chiefs and government officials in Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on key security concerns ahead of the presidential polls scheduled for May 15. Plans were set up in place to secure the fortified airport compound where elections are due to take place and the entire region, as terrorism remains a threat in the Horn of Africa Nation.

Today’s meeting follows a similar meeting on Tuesday chaired by the newly-elected Speaker of the Lower House Sheikh Adan Madobe, who warned the security chiefs against political entanglement and directed them to take orders from him regarding election security until a new president is elected.
