Prime Minister Barre urges scholars to support war against Al-shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has challenged Somali scholars to the support in the ongoing offensive against the Al-shabaab militants.

The Prime Minister spoke during the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdulqadr Jeylaani, a prominent Islamic scholar who worked hard to spread and defend Islam urged the scholars to emulate the Sheikh and defend their religion.

He said that Sheikh Jeylaani was an example of a true scholar who sacrificed his life for the sake of Allah and his people.

“When the country was in danger, those who took up arms were Somali scholars who led the people in defending their country, today our people and our religion are attacked by Al-shabaab and scholars must take their role in leading the fight,” he said.

He added that the government is committed to supporting the religious institutions and scholars in their efforts to counter the extremist ideology and violence of the Al-shabab militant group.

The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the House of the People and members of the two chambers of government, religious scholars and various segments of society.
