Prime Minister Barre Inaugurates the Somalia Internet Governance Forum 2025
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, today inaugurated the Somalia Internet Governance Forum 2025 (SIGF 2025), marking the third annual edition of the forum held in Mogadishu.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of maintaining national unity and stressed the need for a collaborative governance model (multistakeholder approach) to create a unified digital policy that benefits all citizens. He called on internet companies to ensure fair access to their services for the public and to prevent unhealthy competition that hinders the country’s overall progress.
“The Internet Governance Forum must produce tangible and actionable outcomes that can be presented at international technology discussions. In other parts of the world, internet use is regulated—people cannot use it without rules.
The prime minister pointed out the importance of protecting the national unity, urging all public and private companies to work together for the development of the country while protecting the public interests. He called on the internet companies to benefit the society fairly and avoid competition that doesn’t benefit the general development of the country
