Prime Minister Barre Says Somalia’s Survival Depends on Strength of Its Armed Forces

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: MOGADISHU — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, has stated that the existence and survival of the Somali people are directly tied to the strength and presence of the country’s armed forces, emphasizing that without the military, the nation itself cannot endure.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a major event marking the 66th anniversary of the founding of the Somali National Army, where he underscored the indispensable role of the military in defending the nation and safeguarding the dignity of its people.

“Whenever you hear of national honor, national pride, or national dignity — it is the strength and capability of a nation’s armed forces that uphold it,” Barre said, noting that military power remains the primary pillar for protecting sovereignty and national reputation.

He further observed that the world is entering a new phase where realities are more exposed and less concealed, stressing that military strength has become a decisive factor in global affairs. As such, he said, every country must maintain a capable force to defend its interests.

Barre warned that Somalia faces an existential threat if it fails to build a strong and effective military, pledging continued efforts to enhance the capacity, size, and equipment of the armed forces so they can fully carry out their national duties.

The Prime Minister also commended the armed forces for their role in defending the country and combating anti-government groups, urging them to remain steadfast in their mission to preserve Somalia’s sovereignty and unity.
