Veteran civil society activist Prof. Abdullahi Shirwa passes on

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Professor Abdullahi Mohamed Shirwah, a veteran civil rights activist, peacemaker and former MP has passed on in Mogadishu. 

The family confirmed to Goobjoog News that Prof. Shirwa died while in a coma which lasted for one week. He was scheduled to be flown out of the country for further treatment.
Professor Shirwah was a member of the Goobjoog Media Group. He has been presenting good governance and public sensitization programme dubbed ‘OGAAL’ for the last three years.

Professor Shirwa was the chairman of the South and Central Somalia Civil Society Organisations (SOSCENSA) for many years and actively advocated for human rights. He also founded Peace Line, a civil society organisation which promotes peace in Somalia.

Prime Minister Mohamed Roble described Shirwa as an active member of civil society, devoting his time and mind to promoting peace and mobilizing the community in response to emergencies.

Goobjoog Media Group will dedicate May 30 in honour of Professor Shirwa. All GMG outlets will suspend normal programming in honour of Professor Shirwa who was a dedicated member of the company.
