Puntland and Somaliland Call on Peace

Garaad Jama Garaad Ismail, one of the prominent of Sool region, told the media in Las Anod that the violence was unfavorable, and called on Somaliland and Puntland to take peace and end the war.

“We call on authorities of Somaliland and Puntland to cease the ongoing interventions that clearly incite armed confrontation, we should not allow more loss of human lives from both sides, we believe there are more peaceful means to resolve the dispute’’ Said– Garaad Jamaa

The intellectual has told Somaliland and Puntland that the Sool community is working on peace, and they have completed their negotiations and understanding.

The  tensions between the Puntland and Somaliland authorities was followed by  the armed clashes on January 8, 2018 when Somaliland troop’s attacked Puntland forces positioned at the Sool region’s Tukaraq town.

Tukaraq town in the Sool region remains in conflict between Somaliland and Puntland, and there is no formal solution upto now.

On a final note, we invite the civil society groups and the international community to join us in calling for peace, calmness, respect to the sacredness of human life and stability, especially on the current tensions in Sool region.
