Puntland bans weapons in Bosaso airport amid terror threats
Authorities in Puntland have banned all forms of weapons in Bosaso airport in a bid to boost security of the aviation facility following threats of a possible attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Puntland police commissioner Abdirizak Shire told the media Monday all persons except security detail of the president among other senior government officials will not be allowed to carry any weapon into the airport.
“The police will only allow security teams for President Abdiweli Gaas, his deputy Abdihakim Amaay and Parliament speaker Ahmed Ali Hashi to carry weapons into the airport. Any other person will not be permitted,” the police chief said.
Bosaso airport was renovated by the Chinese government and re-opened mid last year.
