Puntland deputy president visits Galkaayo local government offices
Deputy president of the semi-autonomous regional state, Abdihakim Abdullahi Amay has made a surprise visit to Galkaayo local government following yeterdayy’s attack that claimed lives of over twenty people.
The scene became one of the bloodiest terror attacks in Galkaayo town after inception of Al-Shabaab group.
Amay also visited Galkayo hospital where the victims of the attack were taken for treatment.
Shabaab said it carried out the Sunday’s attack, in a message distributed via the Telegram messaging service, claiming “at least 30 people, including military personnel and apostates were killed.”
In March, Al-Shabaab attacked a hotel in Galkayo, killing at least six people, including a senior local government official.
Al-Shabaab, an affiliate of al-Qaeda working to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu, is expected to violently disrupt elections that are to be held in September and October.
