Puntland Forces Seize Drones, Arrests 7 Linked to Terror Groups
GOOBJOOG NEWS | GAROWE: Puntland security forces said they seized several drones and arrested seven individuals linked to terror organizations.
Sources said the security forces seized five “suicide” drones – an indicator of shifting trends in tactics used by terrorist groups in the region.
The terror suspects were arrested in a sting operation targeting a convoy travelling between Garowe and Galkayo by Puntland forces who were acting on intelligence based sources.
“The suspects were arrested after military intelligence provided crucial information about their activities,” a senior Puntland security official, who requested anonymity, said.
The official added that the drones were believed to have been smuggled through the porous borders of Bosaso’s busy port and likely en route to central Somalia. Puntland’s security forces have launched investigating the incident, which could have far-reaching implications for the region’s security.
