Puntland Forces Seize Last ISIS Hideouts in Cal-Miskaad Mountains

GOOBJOOG NEWS | GAROWE: Counterterrorism forces in  Puntland State said on Thursday they had captured key locations in the Cal-Miskaad mountains, including what were described as some of the last hideouts of Islamic State-linked fighters in the region.

The Puntland Counterterrorism Centre said troops secured Ceelka Garooba, Ceelka Dhasaqan, Lugta Dhanaan, Ablaaya and Dalfalo in the Baallade Valley after a recent operation.

Puntland has stepped up operations in recent months to root out ISIS and al-Shabaab cells that have used the region’s rugged terrain as safe havens.

Officials said the latest advance marks a significant step in efforts to weaken extremist networks in northern Somalia.
