Puntland forces seize vehicle carrying illegal drugs in Bossaso
Puntland security forces have on Tuesday seized a vehicle transporting liters of liquors and other drugs smuggled that was to be sold illegally in Bossaso town and the other major cities.
The driver was arrested in connection to the incident.
The vehicle was flagged down at a police check according the police boss at the checkpoint, Barqad Mohamed Jama’a.
“We confiscated a car loaded with illegal drugs and we also arrested the driver and another person who was travelling in the car” said Jama’a.
Sources confirm that during the arrest the vehicle avoided the main roads to escape police checks along the main road.
The 55 bottles of the seized liquors and drugs were taken Bossaso police station.
Security forces have in the last few months been conducting major operations targeting illegal liquor sellers and youngsters accused of selling drugs.
Alcohol consumption is unlawful in Somalia with strict measures against alcohol consumers and sellers. Most of the alcohols used by locals are sold in black market.
It is often smuggled into Puntland from different points along the Ethiopian border.
