Puntland opposition accuse president Deni of plans to extend term
GOOBJOOG NEWS | PUNTLAND: Puntland opposition has accused President Saeed Abdullahi Deni of planning to illegally extend his term in office.
In a joint statement, the opposition leaders claimed that president Deni intends to seek support from Puntland military officials in his quest to extend his term.
They further warned that the move would likely present negative consequences and affect the stability of the state.
“We are calling on the army and their commanders to uphold the law, and not lead Puntland to chaos and destruction,” the statement from the opposition reads in part.
The statement of the opposition comes a day after president Deni said that he would support the one person one vote system, which the opposition rejected in favor of the old parliamentary system.
