Puntland soldiers go on strike over ‘meagre salaries’
Hundreds of soldiers absconded duties in Puntland’s city port Bossaso after they were given what the soldiers said was little pay.
Over 200 soldiers left their bases in the town and went on strike over missing rights as confirmed by the district commissioner of the Bossaso town.
All the main roads of the town were reportedly cordoned off by the soldiers curtailing the movement of the people and public vehicles in the town.
Bossoso DC Mohamed Saeed told Goobjoog News that the soldiers were uncertified with the remuneration paid by Puntland Government earlier this month.
Traditional leaders and politicians intervened in the deadlock later and requested the army to leave the main roads in the town.
Mohamed underlined that they solved the issue and the soldiers and their commanders agreed to go back their respective camps soon.
It was two months before when Army troops on the frontline straddling the restive Galgal mountains vacated their positions on account of unpaid salaries and demanded President Gaas to reinstate sacked officials.
Mutineers formed temporary positions in the outskirts of Garowe, calling on President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali’s administration to address their plights.
