Puntland soldiers revolt over unpaid wages
Hundreds of Puntland soldiers on Saturday took to the streets over unpaid wages in Puntland’s latest in a series of mutinies.
A soldier who declined his name told Goobjoog News that Puntland Police officers in Galkaayo town Saturday protested and seized offices and local government buildings in protest for the delay in salary payment.
“We were protesting over unpaid wage and we complained about these several times and nothing was done,” said the officer.
“Hundreds of soldiers have been protesting,” a witness said. The witness declined to give their name for fear of reprisal from the authorities.
“The police have been demanding their salaries” they said.
Galkaayo mayor, Abdiaziz Jama’a Nugaal said that the complaints submitted by the soldiers have been resolved.
