Puntland State Mobilizes Local Clans to Counter ISIS Threat

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BARI: Somalia’s Puntland State has started mobilizing local tribes living within Al-Miskaad in Bari region to boost its ongoing offensive against the ISIS group.

Puntland’s Parliament First Deputy Speaker Mohamed Baari Shire who recently survived an ISIS attack in Dharjaalle village has been leading the efforts by meeting elders to discuss the role tribes can play in combating extremist groups.

According to Baari, the presence of terrorist groups such as Al-Shabaab and ISIS in some parts of the remote eastern villages of Bari have affected the local communities hence the need for local communities to participate in efforts to eradicating these groups from their areas.

Puntland’s security agencies have intensified operations in the region in an effort to restore stability and safety of the residents following the recent attack Dharjaale.

The efforts by the Puntland state to intensify operations in the region reflects Puntland’s determination to counter the threat posed by extremist groups by engaging local communities in the fight.
