Puntland ‘Welcomes ISIS Defectors’, Extends Amnesty

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Puntland government said Tuesday it welcomes those who have surrendered from supporting ISIS following a seven-day amnesty issued by President Abdullahi Deni.

A statement from the state presidency said those who wish to dissociate with the terrorist group ISIS should take advantage of the one-week extension.

“The Puntland Government welcomes those who have reached out and taken advantage of the seven-day amnesty opportunity granted by the Presidend Abdullahi Deni  to anyone who was collaborating with the ISIS terrorist group and has now renounced that ideology,” the statement read in part.

Puntland Counter Terrorism Operations said it extended ‘our gratitude to our citizens for their unwavering support of the security forces, especially those living in rural areas who are reporting the movements of fleeing terrorists and any suspicious individuals.’
