GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU/HARGEISA: Qatar Charity has launched its annual Eid al-Adha campaign under the theme “The Greatest Days”, distributing fresh Qurbani meat to more than 29,200 vulnerable families across Mogadishu and Hargeisa as part of a broader humanitarian initiative aimed at promoting social solidarity.

Field teams commenced the operation by slaughtering and distributing sacrificial meat across 17 districts in the Banadir region, as well as displacement camps in Hargeisa, government-run hospitals, and orphan care centers. The campaign seeks to uplift displaced and impoverished communities during the Eid season.

“This year’s project is unique due to its expanded geographic coverage and the higher number of beneficiaries,” said Abdallah Mohamed Ali, Acting Director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office. “Our teams began distributing meat immediately after slaughter, working closely with local authorities to ensure dignified and efficient delivery.”

The distributions were conducted in coordination with local government bodies and community committees to ensure equitable access and logistical transparency. According to officials, the effort is part of Qatar Charity’s seasonal aid strategy and reflects a longstanding commitment to humanitarian support in Somalia.

The Deputy Head of Banadir Regional Administration for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Isa Mahmoud Juri, toured several slaughter and distribution sites in Mogadishu alongside senior municipal officials.

“Qatar Charity’s support remains a critical humanitarian pillar for our region,” Juri said. “Their projects consistently reach the most deserving, especially during important seasons like Eid al-Adha.”

Personal testimonies underscored the impact of the campaign. In Tredishi IDP camp near Mogadishu, displaced resident Fatima Madi Munur said: “We never expected to celebrate Eid in these conditions, but today we received our share of the meat and shared the joy as others did.”

At Medina Hospital, patient Maryam Ali Jumale added: “The meat reached us in our hospital beds. Though we’re far from our families, we felt remembered. It was a deeply touching gesture.”

Meat distribution will continue over the coming two days, reaching additional health facilities, internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, and low-income neighborhoods, under strict administrative and health supervision.

Qatar Charity’s campaign comes amid ongoing economic hardship and displacement challenges in Somalia, where millions rely on seasonal aid during religious holidays.
