Race to Fill 3,000 Teacher Slots Enters Final Stretch as 13,000 Applicants Sit for Last Test

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The race to fill the 3,000 slots for new teachers declared by the Ministry of Education entered the second round Sunday as thousands of applicants sat for a written test in various parts of the country.

Education Minister Farah Abdulkadir launched the start of the exercise in Mogadishu on Sunday which saw applicants in Galmudug, HirShabelle, South West, Jubaland and the Interim SSC-Khatumo sit for the test.

According to the Ministry of Education, 13,252 applicants sat for the text out of the 26,000 who had initially applied. The Ministry announced mid this month the completion of the first phase of the selection process as 14,000 applicants failed to meet the threshold.

The government plans to employ 10,000 teachers to fill the growing demand in classrooms countrywide as the number of students increase.

Out of the 12,000 applicants, 9,546 are men and 3,124 women. The first batch of 3,000 teachers was employed last year.
