New electoral college to elect MP in Baidoa after nullification by dispute resolution body
The election for a parliamentary seat that was nullified previously by Somalia’s independent dispute committee over malpractices and vote rigging is expected to take place on Wednesday in Baidoa town.
According to South West State State-level electoral commission (SIEIT), exercise will commence today after the body finished the registration of the new electoral college delegates.
Earlier, the Independent Dispute Resolution Mechanism rejected the election results of five seats from the Lower House chamber carried out in the regional states, and decide to re-contest for the parliamentary seats again.
On Tuesday, Abdi Mohamud Mohamed won with 45 votes in the election in Garowe town for Puntland despite concerns to the electoral committee over the vote rigging, intimidation and delegate harassment during the parliamentary election.
Preparations of four of the five re-run have been concluded and the elections will take place in four towns across Somalia.
