Real Madrid donate €1m in aid for Syrian refugees
Real Madrid have announced that they will be donating 1 million euros in aid for the refugees – many from Syria – being taken in by Spain.
This decision is in line with the club’s commitment to charitable causes and has the “aim of supporting men, women and children who have been forced to leave their homes in order to flee from war and death”, according to a statement published on the ‘Los Blancos’ website.
The club has also revealed that its president, Florentino Pérez, spoke to Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy on Friday about other ways in which Real Madrid can contribute to caring for refugees in Spain.
The club is looking to roll out a number of possible schemes and initiatives particularly targeting younger refugees and will also be making some of its facilities and resources available to the governmental commission responsible for overseeing refugee reception.
