Reconciliation conference for Galmudug and Puntland to kick off today

Reconciliation conference for Galmudug and Puntland is expected start in Galkaayo town on Monday.

The presidents of Galmudug and Puntland will be travelling to Galkaayo town to attend the negotiation conference brokering Somali prime minister Omar Abdirashid Ali and two other regional leaders, Ahmed Mohamed Madoobe and Shariif Hassan Skeikh of Jubbaland state and South-west respectively.

A delegation led by Somali premier Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke which included the President of South West H.E. Sharif a Hassan Sh. Aden, Federal Cabinet Ministers, and members of the Federal Parliament reached Galkaayo town yesterday afternoon to resolve the armed conflict in Galkaayo.

Speaking to the media in Galkaayo,  Sharmarke said reconciliation meeting would be held Galkaayo town which will be attended by both the President of Puntland and Galmudug.

“I express my dismay at the occurrence of armed clashes in Galkaayo over the last few days which has both directly and indirectly affected many people” said Sharmarke adding “ I came to Galkaayo to bring an end to this unfortunate skirmishes and i will not depart until I see the displaced people returning to their homes.”

The fighting of last Sunday claimed 11 lives and injuring about 50 others.
