GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Speaker of the House of the People Sheikh Aden Mohamed Noor (Madoobe), met his Kenyan counterpart Moses M. Wetang’ula in Nairobi as both countries moved to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and deepen engagement within the East African Community (EAC).

Wetang’ula congratulated Madoobe on Somalia’s growing role in the regional bloc, including his leadership as Chairperson of the EAC Parliamentary Speakers’ Forum and Somalia’s successful election of its representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

He noted that Somalia’s active participation was helping consolidate the country’s integration into the regional framework.

Speaker Madoobe extended condolences on behalf of the Somali nation following the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He also invited Wetang’ula to attend the EAC Speakers’ Summit, which Somalia will host in May 2026, an event expected to highlight the country’s expanding diplomatic and legislative footprint in the region.

During their talks, the two speakers discussed plans to establish a parliamentary friendship committee, expand experience-sharing programmes between lawmakers, and strengthen coordination between the legislative bodies of both nations.

The meeting was also attended by senior Somali officials, including the Secretary-General of the House of the People, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulle (Jaabiri), Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jibril Ibrahim Abdulle, and the Director-General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Yusuf Hassan.
