Registration of candidates for speaker positions underway in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Registration of candidates for Speaker positions of both Houses of the People of Somalia has kicked off in Mogadishu.

The first candidate to be registered was Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, who has been cleared to run for Speaker of Parliament, followed by MP Mohamed Omar Ali Aano-Nug running for First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Upper House has given a go ahead to Senator Ilyas Badel Gabooshe who is contesting for the position of the second Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

The registration of candidates for the speakers of boch chambers will run for a period of three days, with the election of the Speaker of the Upper House expected to take place on the 26th of this month and the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives on the day after.
