Registration of candidates for Upper House Speaker set for today

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The election committee of the Speaker of the Upper House is today expected to start the registration of candidates vying for the position of Speaker of the Upper House (Senate).

The Somali parliament at a joint meeting on Monday, passed a resolution requiring candidates contesting for Lower and Upper House Speakers to part with $20,000 up from the $ 15,000 fee previously paid, while the Deputy Speaker’s position has attracted a $15,000 fee from $ 10,000. 

Parliament also stated that elections for the Speaker of the Upper House are set to take place on April 26 and the election of the Speaker of the House of the People will take place the following day.
