Registration of Political Parties Open Today Until March 31- Elections Commission

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Registration for political parties will start today until March 31, the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) has said.

The INEBC chairman, Abdikarin Ahmed told journalists in Mogadishu this afternoon that the Commission had opened fresh registration for political parties for the next two months.

He noted that political organisations that had initially received interim certificates from the now-defunct Independent National Elections Commission (INEC) will register afresh but will not pay registration fees.

The electoral boss added that the Commission will traverse the country to sensitise the public about the preparations for the upcoming elections.

Somalia is expected to hold one-person, one-vote elections from next year starting with Federal Member State and district council elections, in line with an agreement by the country’s national leadership last October.
