Registration of presidential candidates to kick off in Mogadishu today

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Joint Committee for the election of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia will on Sunday begin the registration of candidates for the country’s top seat in Mogadishu.

The 17-member committee has picked the Upper House as the registration center of candidates for the Somali presidency.

The Joint Committee yesterday announced the requirements for the Somali presidential candidates, including a Candidate Nomination Letter, which stipulates that a candidate is required to have at least 20 Members of the House of the People or the total number of Senators from one State proposing his/her eligibility for the post of President of Somalia.

The election of the 10th President of the Somali Republic is scheduled to take place on May 15, 2022 in Mogadishu, with several candidates currently abroad expected to jet in soon to participate in the poll process.
