Roadside bomb kills two near Mahaday
At least two people have been killed near Mahaday town of Middle Shabelle when a landmine destroyed a motorbike they were traveling on, Mahaday officials said Saturday evening.
Mahaday District Commissioner, Ahmed Hussein Afrah said the explosion occurred along the main road leading to Mahaday town.
“There was a terrible incident, a landmine hit a bike,” said Afrah.
He said explosion killed two siblings who travelling on the bike.
The explosion is said to be landmine that had been planted under the roadside often used by the Somali National Army.
Afrah said the latest incident occurred at 2pm local time (1400 GMT) on Saturday, when a bike carrying a boy and a girl identified Ayub Sheikh Abddi and Farhiyo Sheikh Abdi respectively drove over an improvised explosive device.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility of the attack, but Al-Shabaab has carried out similar attacks in the past.
