Saudi Relief Reaches Flood-Hit Families in Mogadishu’s Deynile District

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has delivered emergency aid to 564 families affected by recent flash floods in Deynile district, part of Somalia’s Banadir region.
The assistance, comprising food, clothing, and shelter supplies, was provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and distributed in coordination with the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), local NGO Tadamun, and the Deynile district administration.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains that swept through parts of Mogadishu, left vulnerable communities displaced and in urgent need of support.
“This distribution is part of a broader relief operation that will reach over 21,000 families across nine districts in Banadir,” said Mohamed Sheikh Abdi, a representative from Tadamun. He noted that the rollout will continue in the coming days.
Hassan Mahmoud, Deputy Director of Relief at the Deynile district administration, welcomed the aid and described it as “a timely intervention for families hit hardest by the floods.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Tadamun, highlighting the quality and prompt delivery of the assistance.
The relief effort underscores growing international support for Somalia as the country confronts recurring climate shocks, including flash floods and prolonged droughts, that continue to strain local communities and infrastructure.
