Second Annual Scholars Conference to Open in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The second annual conference of Somali scholars opens in Mogadishu today as the government cements the role of scholars in addressing challenges facing the nation especially terrorism.

Preparations are completed for the conference ahead of the official opening by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud this morning.

The President is expected to brief the scholar on is government’s role in defending the country’s territorial integrity, fight against corruption and the ongoing war against Al-Shabaab.

The inaugural event opened last year as the government sought to rope in various sectors of society in responding to challenges afflicting the state.

The government has also engaged religious scholars and clerics in countering exteremist narratives amidst the ongoing war against Al-Shabaab.
