Counter-terrorism conference kicks of in Mogadishu

Intellectual Security and fighting extremism conference organized by the Federal government of Somalia and sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has kicked off today in Mogadishu.

The conference has participated by 12 representatives of OIC member states, 30 scientific figures from Muslim countries and 12 Somali clerics and intellectuals.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mahdi Mohamed Guled (Khadar) who was chairing the conference has delivered a speech at the conference which he focused on the tolerance of the Islamic religion and the Somali tradition emanating from peace and stability, noting that violence, terrorism and suicide bomber are not attributes known in Somalia, declaring that it is a subversive idea from abroad.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr Abdulkadir Ahmed-Kheir Abdi said that the convening of such a conference in Mogadishu is a historic achievement that encourages peace efforts to renounce violence, extremism and terrorism with its erroneous, political and social dimensions.

The two-day conference on April 29-30 is expected to conclude tomorrow in Mogadishu.
